Ipsy Unboxing: August 2014

PRODUCTS:
- Lord & Berry Black Mini Kohl-Liner (.6g)
- Glam Glow Youthmud (.5fl oz)
- Manna Kadar Sheer Glow Shimmer Lotion (0.27 oz)
- Urban Decay Perversion Mascara (0.1fl oz)
- Jersey Shore Sun Mongongo Lip Balm (.15 0z)

REVIEW:
Okay so there were 5 products in this bag, but this bag was totally a downer. The ONLY full size item this month was a LIP BALM, which you can't really make in a mini size since they are relatively already so small. So the full size balm prices range from $2.99-$3.99, and the sample sizes range from affordable to only one usage. Now lets dissect each one, shall we.

Lord & Berry Mini Liner:
So this thing is the size of my pinky, and the formula is kinda soft and kinda pigmented. For this I could've gone to the dollar store and bought a full size ELF one and get more use out of it. So yeah, not excited to get this product.

Glam Glow Youthmud:
There is probably 1-2 uses of this product. And I know its a very expensive product, but at least we get to try it, which is the real meaning of these products. The thing is, if you want me to buy a $60+ exfoliator, you should give out larger sample sizes so I can actually TRY the product.

Manna Kadar Sheer Glow Lotion:
This is probably my favorite product. Yes, it is tiny, but you only need a little to get a full face of highlighting. I use this as a cheek highlighter, but you can add it into your foundation for an all around highlighted look. It is a pinkish tone, so you might have to incorporate it into your look, but still, I CAN ACTUALLY USE THIS PRODUCT.

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara:
Yes, I love how they added a higher brand, but seriously. The size of the tube, is the size of my middle finger, but the brush takes up all of the inside, so just imagine how much product is inside. I say 4-5 uses before it gets clumpy and dry. I could probably get this for FREE if I ordered directly from UD.

Mongongo Lip Balm:
This is probably the only item I have used ever since I've received the bag and I ACTUALLY get to use. Its amazingly moisturizing and I love it. It is USDA Organic and it is the best. But I feel like this shouldn't be considered the full size product for a subscription service. I guess this was a $10 lipbalm.

OVERALL RATING:
This bag is a 6/10. Could've been better, but there were some decent products. PLUS the BAG was flimsy and something I would've gave to my 8 year old cousin.

BEAUTY BOX 5 REVIEW: AUGUST

Hey lovelies! If you are subscribed to this box and are curious to what I got, or if you're scoping out any other beauty subscription service because let's face it, we all need more, join me in dissecting this months box!

THEME: Radiant & Remarkable
RATE & REVIEW:
9/10 for the box, for some reason I feel like it's missing something, is that weird?
It had the pert combination of hair, skin, nail, and cosmetic products!
___________________________
Item #1:
NANACOCO Lip Gloss:
Retail rice: $3.99
Color I got: Mysterious.
Okay I am in love. This gloss is SUPER pigmented and SUPER affordable. In the box all subscribers received a full size gloss in various colors, but mine was a bubblegum pink. BUT for me, the color wasn't suitable for my skintone WHEN I used a heavy hand, but when I dabbed it lightly on my lips, the color was amazing. The product isn't sticky at all but it is amazingly pigmented.
____________________________
Item #2
Purlisse Pur-Protect SPF 30 Moisturizer/Sunscreen:
Retail price: $55.00 for 1.7 oz (and we received a .5 oz sample)
Okay, if you have ipsy, you may have gotten the SAME exact product last month, or a similar products months before, but to be honest, I don't mind! I LOVE this moisturizer. The product doesn't leave a greasy finish and with SPF 30 you can't go wrong. I ALWAYS add moisturizer to my makeup routine and having a dependable moisturizer is a must. Now I don't know if I would buy the full size product but knowing these subscription services, I'll end up getting the full size value in samples.
___________________________
Item #3
LA FRESH Travel Lite Makeup Remover Wipes:
Retail price: $19.99 for 48 Packets (we received 1 pig with 8 wipes)
I love makeup wipes but I hate getting them in such small quantities. But I understand, we're sampling it out, but since these are Oil-Free wipes, I think I'm going to stash them in my bag for whenever I have a makeup meltdown.
_____________________________
Item #4
Novex Brazilian Kerstin
Retails for $19.50 for 2lbs, we received 30g
Okay so I haven't used this product yet but let it sink in that we just got a packet of pure Keratin. You can do your own treatment at home and you don't have to go through all the trouble. I'm excited to try this product! Yay, hair food!
_____________________________
Item #5
Style Essentials Nail Polish
Retails: $7.00 for a 4 Piece Collection
I got a cuteeee black and white accent polish, which reminds me of the Sephora X collection polish. Its a smaller size, in between a mini and a full size, but the polish has different sizes and shapes and its pretty awesome.

Benefit They're Real! Push Up Liner REVIEW!

Some love it, some hate it. I am in between. This is a HEAVY DUTY liner. If you're going to school or work ALL DAY then yes, this is a great product. Going to a concert? YES. Going out in the rain? YES. Getting caught in a hurricane? THIS WILL HELP. IT WILL GO NOWHERE. But if you like to tug at your eyes to get makeup off then this will make ya happy. So enough with the sarcasm, lets get to the pros & cons.

PROS:
- Glides on SO SMOOTHLY.
- INTENSE black color.
- Easy to apply.
- Great for winged eyeliner looks.
- Waterproof, sweat proof, hurricane proof.

CONS:
- WONT come off without a fight.
- If you twist it and don't use it, it'll dry and wont apply smoothly.
- Over $20 for an eyeliner? Really?

Rating: 8/10 ***

REVIEW: Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade

To go gel, you need to be brave. Everyone knows that Anastasia Beverly Hills is the Queen of eyebrows, but gel ISN'T for everybody. I, personally, have thicker eyebrows, but not crazy thick, and I use the gel for shaping my eyebrows. That's exactly what its made to do, SHAPE. If you are happy with your shape, and you just want to make them a bit bolder, go for the Brow Wiz. If you want more filled brows, the powder duos are for you.. A GREAT pair is the Pomade and the powder. With both, your eyebrows will look flawless. For application, you want to find a brush that suits to your eyebrow. I use the Tarter eyebrow brush, and its a wider brush, which suits my brows, but the Japonesque brush in 214 is also a great affordable brush for detailing. If you want even BOLDER brows, I would suggest the Anastasia Concealers for the brows.

PROS:
- Amazing for the right kind of brow.
- Not too messy, easy and quick (with practice).
- Many kinds of colors so you can find the perfect shade.

CONS:
- The Price is probably the only downside, but BELIEVE ME, the Pomade lasts forever, unlike the brow wiz.

RATE: 10/10 ***

REVIEW TIME: IT COSMETICS NATURALLY PRETTY PALETTE

So lets start off with the basics. What is the Naturally Pretty palette? Well, here's some basic info. The palette consists of 14 ALL MATTE shadows, plus a transforming pearl shade so 15 in total. The sizes of the shadows are compared to the Lorac Pro shadow shades. The colors are natural earth toned colors that can be introduced in almost any eye look. So I'm just going to go straight into the Pros & Cons and the palette rating. (:

PROS:

- ALL MATTES. Which are rare in palettes because there's usually only about 3 in every palette.
- Soft and buttery, yum.
- Range of colors are amazing and durable.
- Completely blendable.
- Has basic highlight and matte black shadow.
- Has a mirror, yay.
- The palette itself isn't big and the felt material over it is nice (:
- Cruelty Free, SAVE THE BUNNIES.

CONS:

- Transforming Pearl color IS pigmented and WILL take away from the original pigment of the shadow you transform to a shimmer, but still makes a pretty shadow so.
- Mainly warm toned so, sorry cool tone peeps :c

RATING: 9.5/10
- I could only find kinda one fault in this palette, but other than that, this is an amazing palette! A MUST-HAVE. These mattes are AMAZING for transformation colors or just a traditional smokey eye.

REVIEW TIME: LORAC PRO PALETTE

If you want to invest in a palette that you're going to actually use everyday, this should be your #1 choice. Don't bother spending money on themed palettes that get a lot of rave. This palette right here will give you the perfect combination on ANY mainstream eye look such as the traditional smokey eye or the "Natural" look. Now, lets just dissect this palette a little more, shall we?

PROS:

- Don't let the name fool you, this palette is perfect for BOTH beginners, and professionals.
-There are 8 matte shades in total, MORE MATTES THAN YOU GET IN ANY REGULAR PALETTE.
-The colors are separated by being either mattes, or shimmers. Mattes on top, shimmers on bottom.
-Shadows are SUPER BUTTERY. You barely feel like you even touched it and you end up having so much product on your finger. Go ahead. TRY IT.
- Colors range from basic, to nude, to browns, to darks.
- Contains basic highlights and creases shades.
- Some shimmers correspond with the mattes, making it easier to create an entire look.
- Mirror is about the length of the palette, those are always nice.
- Thin palette allows for easy travel.
- BARELY any fallout, has LESS fall out than Urban Decay.
CONS:
- The material of the actual palette tends to get easily stained.
- Some shimmers apply best with Fix + or a heavier duty primer.
************************************************************************************
How amazing is that that this palette BARELY has any cons! I mean I cant find any, and if you know of any then you're good. This palette can be worn in SO many looks. Do I think its worth the money? ABSOLUTELY. If you have this palette you don't really need much else.
*Palette Rating: 10/10

BATTLE OF THE PALETTES: LORAC UNZIPPED vs NAKED 3 REVIEWS

Photo By: Laura Through The Lens

Here we are! A battle between the Rose Golds and Pinky Hues. I say, its time to get this battle started. First, lets briefly analyze each palette and discuss some of the pros and cons here.

Naked 3:
Pros:
- Large set mirror, those are always nice.
- 12 shades, at least that better than 10?
- Brush included.
- Soft Mattes, pigmentation will be discussed. (3)
- Has a basic highlight and smokey shadow.
- SOME soft to the touch shimmers.
- They're pretty (:
Cons:
- HOLY FALLOUT, you need a duster for your cheeks basically.
- Dust, Buzz, & Trick = Chuncky and harder to apply shimmers.
- Matte pigmentation is OKAY, but I've had better results from other palettes.
- One shadow the palette could do without: Darkside. It seems like it should be in Naked 2.
- Bulky container omg.
Okay, so the Pros & Cons pretty much sum up the product. It has its faults but are the faults worth $50+? Basically this palette is one that some people can live without, its an add on. BUT one thing that people fail to realize is that this palette is more flexible to women with darker skin tones. Why? Because the pink hues can make women of lighter color look as if they have puffier eyes or swollen eye areas. In that case, probably save that money for a night out to a nice Thai Restaurant, yummmm.
*Palette Rating: 8/10

LORAC UNZIPPED:
Pros:
- Smooth, buttery mattes. (4)
- Shimmers soft, barely any fallout.
- High pigmentation.
- Basic highlight and smokey shadow.
- Large size shadows
- Versatility, you don't HAVE to ALWAYS wear Rose Gold looks in this palette.
- Mirror included, that's goooood.
- Sample of Eye Primer along with purchase.
- Small and easy to travel with.
Cons:
- Not balanced, too many darks, not enough light shades.
- Matte highlight isn't AS pigmented as expected.
- About 3 of the shades look almost alike.
So there you have it. I unzipped the Unzipped. Overall, this is a very nice palette. The colors are smooth with minimal to no fall out and ANYONE can pull these off. Even though there are only 10 shadows, they all compliment each other. The only thing that would make this better would be if a brush was included because I said so. The cons, though, can make or break a palette in general.
*Palette Rating: 8/10
WINNER?
The winner of this Battle goes to LORAC UNZIPPED. This palette just offers more versatility with a smidge less of cons. With it being easier to bring along and with the price being less than the Naked 3, I grab this one more often than Naked 3.

MOTIVES Prom Look #1 : Spring Fling~

So bold and crisp, its so beautiful. This would be an AMAZING prom look. Nothing TOO heavy but I definitely adds a pop to your look. Pastels = Spring so here’s your Spring Fling look! Want to get the deets on how to accomplish this? Well here you go lovely:
1. Apply eye base all over the lid. Using Motives Khol Eyeliner in “Suede” , outline the cut-crease a few mm’s above the natural crease and blend upward towards the brow. Extend the outer corner and connect the wing to the cut crease. Outline the lower lash line and draw a second wing. This is the “blueprint” of the look.
2. Using a detailing crease brush, apply a mixture of “Native” & “Aubergine” shadows from the Motives Mavens Element palette on top of the khol liner above the cut-crease line. Also smudge the lower lash liner using the same mixture.
3. Using a flat concealer or eyeshadow brush, apply a matte mint shadow (Fantasy Palette) on the blank part of the lid. Concentrate the shadow on the inner portion & tear duct and blend out the color past the center of the lid.
4. Flip the brush and apply a matte sky blue shadow on the outer portion of the lid and layer on top of the mint in the center of the lid to blend the two together.
5. Line the top lash line using “Little Black Dress” and thicken the outer wing. Next, drag the liner back from the tip of the wing toward the center of the lid, along the cut-crease line. This shape will very in size, depending on individual eye shape.
6. Add “Shell” eyeshadow (Motives Mavens Element Palette) to the brow bone and in the space between the two wings. Sharpen the second wing with a bit of gel liner. Add mascara and false lashes. -Motives Google+ Page

REVIEW TIME: BENEFIT HIGH BEAM ~ IS IT WORTH THE HYPE?

Benefit's High Beam is a liquid highlighter, if you will. The pearly finish is beyond gorgeous and the product is definitely longgggg lasting, but is it worth the $28?
Lets just make this simple and go over the pros and cons:

PROS:
- Available in larger or smaller sizes, to test your commitment.
- Brush applicator helps with precision and accuracy.
- Shimmer is long lasting, no pink residue.
- Only a small amount needed to get a luminescent glow, making the product longer lasting.

CONS:
- Can appear to make parts of skin oily or highly pigmented.
- If not blended IMMEDIATLEY, it will stain that certain area and not budge.
- Would be better if it was in a creamier consistency, can be too liquidy for certain skin types.

OVERALL:
This product is a keeper, but you're probably off getting the smaller bottle than the large, BECAUSE YOU WILL NEVER USE ALL OF IT in a calendar year or so. In a season where Matte is the new go-to look, you probably want to stick with either a loose powder or cream highlighter. On a rate of 1-10, this highlighter is probably a 7. Is it worth the hype? So-so. But I suggest experimenting first to see what is for you.

Review: Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette

Yes, its true. It does truly smell like chocolate. But that's just the underlying amazing plus to this palette. I have used this palette almost every single day since I got it. The shimmers are so pigmented that they last all day, and the mattes are smooth and they blend together perfectly. The palette contains 16 shadows, and 2 of those shadows are twice the size of the others. Those shadows are the basic matte highlight (White Chocolate) and a shimmer highlight (Champagne Truffle). This palette is a perfect mix of versatility and risk. If anything the only shadow that doesn't belong in the palette is the matte pink (Strawberry Bon Bon). Its barely pigmented but is very smooth. The shimmers are set up into different categories. 6 Soft, smooth & highly pigmented shimmers (Hazelnut, Crème Brulee, Haute Chocolate, Marzipan, Candied Violet, & Amaretto). Along with those are 2 ultra shimmers, with thicker glitter particles and more opaque pigments (Dilded Ganache & Black Forest Truffle). There's one shadow that is different than the others, Cherry Cordial, that is a mix of shimmer and matte. Weird. But its an amazing color without a doubt. As I mentioned before, the matte shades (Milk Chocolate, Triple Fudge, Semi-Sweet, Salted Caramel & Strawberry Bon Bon) mix together amazingly and are soft as butter. Overall this palette is an 9/10 on my Palette Rating Scale, the only fault being the Strawberry Bon Bon shade and the less pigmentation on Candied Violet.

Ipsy Bag April 2014 Review

Hello Beauties!
So this month the April Ipsy bag got a lot of raves of its "Beauty Rocks" theme, many believe due to Coachella being this month. Unfortunately, personally, the bag wasn't TOO great for me. The material it consisted of seemed rather flimsy and easily to get stained, whereas last month it was nice and durable. Much of the rave of the bag came from the fact that a couple of larger, well-known brands were sponsored, such as Urban Decay, Dr. Brandt, and Benefit. Now lets see what items I got in my bag, along with quotes from other Ipsters.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Black Velvet:

The color offered to all was, obviously in Black Velvet. Urban Decay describes this liner as, "an ultra velvety, plush version of our creamy, waterproof 24/7 formula." Which, I can agree to, as this liner is so smooth and pigmented it should be illegal. BUT, the only thing that I disagree to is their claim that its blendable. Precise lines? Yes. Blended-out? Nope. If you want the best of both worlds, I suggest their liner in Perversion, it does both perfectly.
Testimonial from Ipster, RyLeeVera
"Well, this liner is true to the description: "velvet glide - on!" It easily runs over the lash-line and I love that! I have trouble with liners, this one was easier than most (for me). I also am usually a fan of the Urban Decay line in general so I am always happy to received one of their products! I WILL SAY.... holy goodness this takes some elbow grease to get off! After using my fave eye makeup remover and washing with my Mia I still had racoon eyes! Needed to used my eye makeup remover 2+ times before I was clean! I guess there are pros and cons to this. It's a con for me. But am I really complaining about long wearing?! ;)"

Coastal Scents Medium Shadow Brush:

Hearing that this was in my bag was bittersweet. Ipsy rarely adds cosmetics brushes to their bags so I was excited, but it being a Coastal Scents brush was OKAY. I mean the brush sells online for about $3 but the hairs and stability of the brush suggests otherwise. Even though its a larger brush needed for my eyelids, I use it for blending and it works perfectly for that.
Testimony from Ipster, dekayaker27
"This is the best brush I've ever used. It holds the powder better and distributes it more evenly than the brushes I just threw out."

dr. brandt microdermabrasion:

Yeah, this wasn't for me. The sample size is, well, Birchbox size and out of ALL of the possibilities they give me an exfoliator, that I said in my quiz that I didn't prefer. Having sensitive skin, I am trading this product with another Ipsy member as she is trading me eyelashes that I wished I received instead.
Testimonial from Ipster, cfullingtonegli
"THIS IS NOT A PRODUCT FOR PEOPLE WITH SENSITIVE SKIN. I used it and had an allergic reaction -- woke up the next day with a very red, very hive-covered face and about a billion angry red spots ALL OVER MY FACE. I reacted so badly my eyes swelled up. If you have sensitive skin DO NOT USE THIS."

Elizabeth Mott pop! goes the shadow:

Yet, another Champagne color shadow. In almost every single one of my makeup palettes, there is a soft, creamy, highly pigmented champagne color. This shadow is one that I am trading as well, because there are other Ipsters out there who are just starting out their collection and they deserve it more than I do.
Testimonial from Ipster, Stephtopia
"I didn't realize what a beautiful shimmer it would have until I put it on. It's a lovely, neutral, peachy base that looks great up by the brow and in the corner of my eye."

Starlooks Luscious Longwear Lip Pencil:

LOVE. Definitely and amazing product. An all over nude that warms into anyone's skin color. The peachy-nude glides on smooth, and is long lasting, hence the name. This items made my bag a thousand times better, making up for the other two downers.
Testimonial from Ipster, ladyshalott
"Loved this color and the wear was amazing! i really didn't have to touch it up, all day at school. It pairs perfectly with several of my lipsticks, and looks great as an all over lip color as well. Very happy with this lipliner!"
